Who we are..........

We are a coalition of 5 neighborhoods in Tucson, Arizona, that have
come together to improve the quality of life in the 29th Street area.
The 29th St. Coalition works to decrease crime, drugs and problem
properties. The 29th St. Coalition is made up of neighborhood
organizations and larger institutions such as the Tucson Police
Department, and non-profit agencies, churches, businesses, schools,
etc.of the area. The 29th St. Coalition applied for a federal Weed &
Seed grant in 2002 and received funding that started in 2005.

Mission .............

To enrich the quality of life for residents and businesses in the 29th
Street Coalition area by implementing community-based, multi-agency strategies to "weed" out crime, violence, and drugs, and to "seed" the area with educational, recreational, social, and economic development.

successes.............

1) Violent crime in our area has gone down 44% from

     2001  to 2007.

2) A drive-through liquor store was recently converted to

    an ice cream shop.

3) All abandoned business properties from previous years

     arecurrently in use.

4) The local schools now have some great prevention

    programs for the youth.

5) Drug use of area youth has gone down from 2006 -

    2008.

6) Most of the apartment complexes participate in the crime

    free multi housing.

7) Street lights have been installed in the Julia Keen

Neighborhood and will be installed in a portion of the

          Myers Neighborhood in 2009.

      8) Speed humps have been installed in all the

     neighborhoods to reduce speed.

9) Neighborhood clean-ups are done on a regular basis

because of our partnering with the Pima County Adult

    Probation Teams.
